Acetyl-L-Carnitine ((ALC)) or Acetyl-L-Carnitine is also called L-acetylcarnitine, acetyl-carnitine, acetyl levocarnitine, (ALC) and (ALC)AR. (ALC) supports memory and good cognitive function: It has a structure similar to the L-carnitine amino acid but also has a similar function as it participates in the metabolism of food into energy (1). The acetyl group present in (ALC) helps produce acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter needed for cognitive function.
It has action against depletion of glucocorticoid receptors over time, prevents phosphorylation of Tau proteins, acetylates alpha and beta proteins by inhibiting the production of amyloid structures, enhances NF2 expression, enhances Nr2 expression, of the brain and metabolism of phospholipids, modulates synaptic morphology and synaptic transmission of many neurotransmitters (2). It is thus used to prevent or reduce age-related cognitive impairment (3).
The (ALC) supplement enhances neurophysiological activities related to concentration and attention (4). it also enhances visual scanning and monitoring, mental flexibility, short-term linguistic memory and computing. Take 1 capsule of Acetyl-L-Carnitine ((ALC)) 3 times daily with little water or other liquid.
