Proteins such as cheese, beans, steaks and other meats make digestion difficult. The stomach produces hydrochloric acid (HCL) to help digest proteins, but when we hectic, with advancing age, or when we eat late in the evening the stomach enough time to prepare acids will dissolve the food, resulting in stomach upset .
Very little gastric acid can cause discomfort and poor absorption of proteins. The betaine increases the amount of the gastric fluid, necessary for the digestion of proteins, and release of metal food and stimulate the pancreas to secrete its digestive enzymes. Adequate levels of hydrochloric acid are necessary for the absorption of calcium, magnesium and zinc. Hydrochloric acid also ensures the release of the "intrinsic factor" -zotikos for the absorption of vitamin B12. The Betaine HCL provides a natural source of betaine to take with food if necessary, and improves digestion. The levels of gastric fluid decreases with advancing age and depleted using antacid drugs. Inside the stomach hydrochloric acid acts to produce pepsin, an enzyme which is absolutely necessary for breaking the protein into smaller, more absorbable portions. Over the years, the endogenous production of hydrochloric acid is reduced dramatically, and this has the consequent and large reduction in the production of pepsin. Without normal levels of pepsin, digestive problems and general disruption of the digestive process is inevitable.
