The L-phenylalanine is a component of dietary proteins and also is a precursor of several non-essential amino acids of the human body. A large number of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) derived from L-phenylalanine. Also, this amino acid stimulates the release of a hormone which controls the appetite.
The D-phenylalanine has some unique properties, the most important of which is to alleviate pain.
